GAMES
Why did I choose this text?
The reason why is rather simple. I love Assassins Creed movies and they do so much research into history that their games are realistic enough for it to be movies and factual, the fact that you are actually taking part in it is phenomenal. This game will recount as an alternative history to the Viking Invasion of Britain. The game is expected to be released in late 2020.
In the game, you play as Eivor, a brave Viking raider that is raised with stories about fights and glories. He becomes embroiled in the conflict between the Brotherhood of Britain and the Assassin's Order. This game takes part in the cruel Middle English Century.
Premise (as taken from Wikipedia);
In 873 AD, war and overcrowding in Norway prompt Eivor to lead their clan of Vikings to settle new lands in Anglo-Saxon England as part of the Viking expansion across Europe. The clan, and other Vikings that form the Great Heathen Army, comes into conflict with the kingdoms of Wessex, Northumbria, East Anglia, and Mercia over the next several years. Eivor's clan will face forces led by the leaders of these kingdoms, including Alfred the Great, the king of Wessex. It is during this time that Eivor meets the Hidden Ones and joins their fight against the Order of the Ancients. Explorable cities include Winchester, London, and York. Parts of Norway will also be included.
How did I come up with this text?
Originally, I was on the search for games that the Vikings might have done, but my research led me to nothing. I, however, did find an article about the first woman and man ever to play chess but in the end, the article seemed useless for my theme. Assassins Creed (Assassin's Creed Valhalla | PlayStation 4. (2020, 8 mei) is an action-adventure roleplaying game which has an open-world based platform and it has created many games already, all semi history-based. I have quite a few AC games already and I must say that they always seem to surprise me. I preordered this game too, I am smitten for the Viking Era and Assassins Creed, so this game is an absolute must for me.
How does the text link to the Theme or any other Theme discussed?
The game takes part in Britain, I assume. As it covers the Viking Invasion of Britain and their expansion across Europe, for that matter it links perfectly to the ESW-theme. Since Eivor sends his army into battle it also covers the theme War but I think this theme also suits the Unrealistic Dreams theme; Eivor is busy with the expansion of the Viking realm so he can create new lands and homes for his people.. for this to happen, there has to be a lot of bloodsheds and he doesn't even know for sure if what he wants will be the reality in the end.
Personal response
I am hyped to play this game and see what it has in store for its players. Assassins Creed has a lot of games already based on historical events but I missed the Viking Era in the series. I am glad they finally made or are in the midst of making one.
